Long Hair is Fun :)

It is so fun to play with long hair :).

My dad thought this looked like a secant graph :).

I can't remember the name of the graph type for a hanging piece of string or rope. I know it is not a parabola. Of course strictly speaking, the drape of the braids would not be that type unless we are in an Elementary Physics Course where all circumstances are ideal. Ah yes, the perfect world of elementary physics, where there is a closed system, no friction, no wind, a negligible weight, and no interference from nosy neighbors. . . That was random. I like my neighbors, by the way.

Okay, I'm not even going to try and figure out that last paragraph... :-)

A hanging string or chain has the shape of a catenary, which is of the form y = B + (1/c) cosh( c (x + A) ).

Anywhat, I like long hair... on girls only.

I thought you might know, Adrian ;). Thanks.

I googled it last night and couldn't find it. I'm so ashamed I couldn't think of it *hides face*.

Aah, I wouldn't beat yourself up about it, Susan. I don't think I could derive that formula, right now. It's not the easiest derivation ever. It involves solving a differential equation with not-so-nice an integral.

In Christ.

Hey...

Finally had some time to check out your website...

It looks great! How long did it take you to do that hair?

I'm not gonna try to *understand* the last paragraph....Although I love math, I'm not too fond of physics..;)

*waves to Sunny*

Glad you dropped by :). How's teaching going? I'll have to e-mail you when my internet is back up in a few days (I'm on a neighbor's computer to write student/parent e-mails). Physics is fun because math is fun. You should give it another try ;).

Adrian: I knew I wouldn't be able to derive the equation for a catenary; I just couldn't think of the name. I did a project on suspension bridges in college and got to prove they were parabolic, but I don't think I'd want to tackle catenaries :). My calculus is rather rusty at the moment. . .

I love your braids in this photo. My favorite hairstyle is the 5-strand Dutch crown braid; a close second is a double French braid ending in two pinned braid buns on the back of my head. I came to check out your article on Reformation Day/Halloween via Lydia Hayden's blog, but stayed to read pretty much everything and have now added a link to your blog to my page for easy access :) Regards-

I love the three-strand dutch crown, but have never mastered it on myself, though I can do it to others with ease. It's a fun up-do. My favorite hairstyle is a rolled, braided bun. Pretty easy for me to do to myself and very secure.

Glad you stopped by :).
